Samsung 2010 Scholarship Rules, Terms and Conditions
Entrant’s essay submission designates his or her full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these rules and the decision of Samsung Techwin America. The Samsung Techwin America 2010 Scholarship Program (“Program”) begins at 12:01 am PST on March 22, 2010, and ends at midnight PST on June 1, 2010. No entries received after midnight PST on June 1, 2010 will be considered. This Scholarship is sponsored and run by Samsung Techwin, a division of Samsung Group, Korea.

 (1) Eligibility: The scholarship is offered to any person of any nationality, 15 years of age or older as of the date of entry, who is a resident of the United States enrolled as a full-time high school student in any public or private high school. Employees, independent contractors, and management of Samsung Techwin America, its affiliates, subsidiaries, and immediate family members and persons living in the same household of said people are not eligible to participate in the Scholarship Program.

(2) How to Enter: Entrants are asked to: Write an essay of approximately 300 words in response to the question: Is technology a good investment for schools? Why or why not?

(3) Teacher Sponsorship: Entrants must submit the e-mail address of the teacher who agrees to sponsor the student in the scholarship competition. Entrant must be the sole creator of the essay. Use of images and works in the public domain may be incorporated into entries as noted sources. However, materials that violate the copyrights of any third party may not be used. Samsung Techwin America is not responsible for late, lost, spam-filtered, stolen, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete entries. Incomplete entries are considered void. All essays may be published in whole or in part for publicity purposes if the entrant has authorized usage.

(4) Plagiarism : The unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work. Please use common sense when creating the content. Samsung Techwin America reserves the right to disqualify any entry whose content is, in the judge’s discretion: inappropriate, offensive, or demeaning to Samsung’s reputation or goodwill.

(5) Prize : Seven (7) scholarship winners will be chosen to win a one-time award of $1,000 towards their own personal scholarship. This scholarship check will be mailed directly to the student. The winners’ names will be posted at the www.samsungscholarship.com website. Odds of winning depend upon the number of entries received. Scholarship is nontransferable.

(6) Winners: The seven (7) winners will be selected by July 15, 2010. A panel of judges will evaluate all eligible essays based on the following criteria:
Original thinking - 30 points
Relevance to the real world - 40 points
Writing quality - 30 points

 (7) Terms & Conditions: By participating, entrants agree that Samsung Techwin America is not responsible or liable for, and shall be pardoned from: I. telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; II. Any condition caused by natural events beyond the control of Samsung Techwin America that may cause the Program to be disrupted or corrupted; III. Any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Program; IV. Samsung Techwin America reserves the right to suspend or cancel Program at any time if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper conduct of the Program. V. Samsung Techwin America does not provide your e-mail address or any other personal information to third parties. Personal information is used for internal purposes only, to verify high school enrollment, and where appropriate, to contact you directly.
